Pancoast tumor A type of lung cancer that begins in the upper part of a lung and spreads to nearby tissues such as the ribs and vertebrae. Most Pancoast tumors are non-small cell cancers. Also called pulmonary sulcus tumor.

PANCOAST TUMORS
The term Pancoast tumor (also called superior sulcus tumor) refers to a non-small cell lung cancer that is located in the top part of one of the lungs, in a region called the superior sulcus.

While radiation therapy is an integral part of the treatment of Pancoast tumors, variations in dose, treatment technique, and staging that was used in various published series make it difficult to determine its effectiveness.
