People with pancreatic insufficiency might have problems with growth and weight gain, and they might also have frequent and bad-smelling bowel movements.

Screening for pancreatic insufficiency is done by measuring the levels of two enzymes in the stool. This test is not as reliable as measuring the sweat chloride level.

Most times, digestive enzyme problems are caused by pancreatic insufficiency, which means, the pancreas doesn't make digestive enzymes, or they get blocked on their way to the stomach.
