During the past 15 years, Giardia lamblia has become recognized as one of the most common waterborne diseases in humans in the United States.
These parasites attack the body through the consumption of contaminated food and water, through the nose or skin, poor hygiene habits, sexual conduct or transmitting agents such as mosquitoes.
Bacteria and parasites can usually be destroyed with antibiotics; antibiotics can't kill viruses.
Diarrhea can cause serious dehydration.
Stool ova and parasites exam is a laboratory test to determine if a stool sample contains parasites or eggs (ova) that are associated with intestinal infections.
