The diagnosis of periodic limb movement disorder is based on the results of an overnight sleep study. If the person has five or more series of limb movements per hour of sleep, a diagnosis of periodic limb movement disorder is confirmed.

I have noticed from my research so far that there may be a link between hypnic jerks, Periodic Limb Movement Disorder, and Myoclonus, which may be caused by not enough oxygen going to the brain. Drinking more fluids may help.
