Photochemotherapy, or psoralen plus ultraviolet A (PUVA). Photochemotherapy involves taking a light-sensitizing medication (psoralen) before exposure to UVA light.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the therapeutic efficacy of narrowband (TL-01) UV-B phototherapy vs photochemotherapy (psoralen-UV-A [PUVA]) in patients with chronic plaque-type psoriasis.

Possibly the most effective method of treating vitiligo is through the use of Psoralen photochemotherapy.

Photochemotherapy (also known as PUVA). PUVA therapy has two steps: first, a medication called psoralen is either applied to the white patches of skin or taken orally; then, the skin is exposed to ultraviolet light, ...

Photochemotherapy (psoralen combined with UVA radiation) is also effective, but increases the risk of skin cancer. Alfacept, which interferes with T-cell (see immunity) activation, is effective in many patients with moderate to severe psoriasis.
