Phyllodes tumors: Breast tumors that may be found in the glandular and stroma (connective) tissues of the breast. Phyllodes tumors are usually benign but on very rare occasions, they may be cancerous. Also spelled phylloides.

 


phyllodes tumor: Rare benign or malignant tumors of the breast.
physiologic: Having to do with the functions of the body. When used in the phrase "physiologic age," it refers to an age assigned by general health, as opposed to calendar age.

Phyllodes tumor:
This very rare type of breast tumor develops in the stroma (connective tissue) of the breast, in contrast to carcinomas, which develop in the ducts or lobules.

phyllodes tumor
A type of tumor found in breast tissue. It is often large and bulky and grows quickly. It is usually benign (not cancer), but may be malignant (cancer). Also called cystosarcoma phyllodes.

phyllodes tumor (fih-LOH-deez TOO-mer) A type of tumor found in breast or prostate tissue. It is often large and bulky and grows quickly. It may be benign (not cancer) or malignant (cancer) and may spread to other parts of the body.

[9] Fifteen percent of these patients had in situ disease, 85% had invasive disease, 55% of the tumors were carcinomas, and 45% of the tumors were sarcomas-most of which were phyllodes tumors.

These are called phyllodes tumors, and require biopsy or surgical removal without mastectomy. Other types of breast cancer have been reported in both males and females younger than 21 years.

Other less common types of breast cancer include inflammatory breast cancer, medullary cancer, phyllodes tumor, angiosarcoma, mucinous (colloid) carcinoma, mixed tumors, and a type of cancer involving the nipple termed Paget's disease.

Other rare breast cancers include phyllodes tumors (usually benign), tubular carcinoma (2% of breast cancers), inflammatory breast cancer (1% to 3% of breast cancers), and Paget's disease (1% of breast cancers) ('Detailed Guide').
