Warts are the most common infection of the skin caused by a virus. Plantar warts grow on the plantar, or bottom surface of the foot. They tend to be found in areas of pressure such as the heel and ball of the foot.

Plantar warts. These occur on the soles of your feet. They usually look like flesh-colored or light brown lumps with tiny black dots in them. These dots are small, clotted blood vessels.
Genital warts.
Plantar warts are skin lesions on the foot caused by a virus entering the blood stream via small cracks or cuts in the skin. The virus can remain dormant for some time, so it may be difficult to tell how you got plantar warts in the first place.
Plantar warts may occur more often in people who often walk barefoot. Wearing shoes or sandals, especially in places like locker rooms, may help prevent plantar warts.

Warts occur in a variety of shapes and sizes. A wart may appear as a bump with a rough surface, or it may be flat and smooth.
Common warts tend to cause no discomfort unless they are in areas of repeated friction or pressure. Plantar warts, for example, can become extremely painful. Large numbers of plantar warts on the foot may cause difficulty walking or running.
These growths are found mostly on the hands and known as common warts while those found on feet are known as plantar warts. A wart may be flat or smooth, or appear as a bump with a rough surface.

What are plantar warts?
Plantar warts look like calluses on the ball of the foot or heel. They may appear to have small pin holes or tiny black spots in the center. They are usually painful and may develop singly or in clusters.
Plantar warts appear on the bottom (sole) of the foot. They are flattened by the pressure of standing on them and can be dotted with tiny, clotted blood vessels that look like dark pinpoints.
Plantar warts are growths on the soles of the feet. They are often mistaken for corns or calluses . The warts are different because they are caused by a virus.
Plantar warts are found on the bottom of the foot. (The "plantar" part of the foot. These are not "Planter's warts.")
Flat ("plane") warts may arise on the face, legs, and other parts of the body, often in large numbers.

Plantar warts: Treatment is vigorous maceration with 40% SCA plaster kept in place for several days. The wart is debrided while damp and soft, then destroyed by freezing or using caustics (eg, 30 to 70% trichloroacetic acid).

For plantar warts, try an over-the-counter wart removal preparation.
For calluses, soak in warm water and then rub them down with a pumice stone. DO NOT cut or burn corns or calluses.
While plantar warts without complications are benign, they can be extremely painful. Individuals who must stand or work on their feet for long hours may require time off from work until healing is complete.

Causes
Warts are caused by infection with the human papillomavirus, a group of ether-resistant, deoxyribonucleic acid-containing papovaviruses.
Foot pain may be caused by injuries (sprains, strains, bruises, and fractures), diseases (diabetes, Hansen disease, and gout), viruses, fungi, and bacteria (plantar warts and athlete's foot), or even ingrown toenails.

Genital warts - these look like grey or off-white lumps with a grainy ‘cauliflower' appearance.

The majority of HPVs produce warts on the hands, fingers, and even the face. Most of these viruses are thus innocuous, causing nothing more than cosmetic concerns. HPVs also can cause painful plantar warts (on the sole of the foot).
HPV usually causes warts in various parts of the body including the skin of palms (palmar warts), soles (plantar warts) and genitals. In addition, there are some types of HPV that can predispose to cervical cancer.
Plantar warts can be small, or they can grow to cover most of the sole of the foot. They are usually painless and go away on their own, sometimes taking a few months to resolve (but can take up to 2 years).

HPVs also can cause painful plantar warts (on the sole of the foot). Several types of HPV, however, are confined primarily to the moist skin of the genitals, producing genital warts and markedly elevating the risk for cancer of the cervix.
