Plummer-Vinson syndrome is a condition that sometimes occur in people with long-term (chronic) iron deficiency anemia.

Other factors include achalasia, human papillomavirus, lye ingestion (resulting in stricture), sclerotherapy, Plummer-Vinson syndrome, irradiation of the esophagus, and esophageal webs.
