Polycystic kidney disease is a disorder that affects the kidneys and other organs.

Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is an inherited disorder in which clusters of noncancerous, fluid-filled sacs (cysts) develop within the kidneys. The cysts vary in size and, as they accumulate more fluid, they can grow very large.

POLYCYSTIC KIDNEY DISEASE OVERVIEW
Normally, the kidneys filter out excess toxic and waste substances and fluid from the blood.

Polycystic kidney disease is a kidney disorder passed down through families in which multiple cysts form on the kidneys, causing them to become enlarged.

Diseases & Conditions A-Z
Polycystic kidney disease is a disorder in which many clusters of cysts develop primarily within your kidneys. Cysts are noncancerous (benign), round sacs that contain water-like fluid.

Polycystic kidney disease is a common cause of kidney failure in Australia and equally affects men and women of different ethnic backgrounds. Men usually progress faster to kidney disease, although it is unclear why this occurs.

Polycystic kidney disease has three forms: infantile, childhood, and adult. The forms are named this way because of the time during a person's life when symptoms begin. The earlier symptoms begin, the more severe the disease usually is.
