Polymyositis

Disease Polymyalgia rheumaticaPolyneuritis

Polymyositis
Polymyositis is a connective tissue disease that triggers inflammation and muscular weakness. The cause is unknown, but polymyositis is thought to be an autoimmune disorder, possibly triggered by a viral infection of muscle tissue.

Polymyositis And Dermatomyositis
Polymyositis and dermatomyositis are diffuse, inflammatory myopathies that produce symmetrical weakness of striated muscles, especially proximal muscles of the shoulder, pelvic girdle, neck, and pharynx.

What is Polymyositis?
Polymyositis is an inflammatory muscle disease of unknown cause. It is often grouped with dermatomyositis, a disease that causes similar symptoms with the addition of skin manifestations.

Polymyositis and dermatomyositis are uncommon systemic rheumatic diseases characterized by inflammatory and degenerative changes in the muscles (polymyositis) or in the skin and muscles (dermatomyositis).

Polymyositis is a skeletal muscle disease also known as idiopathic inflammatory myopathy. The cause of this disorder is unknown. It is thought that an autoimmune reaction or a viral infection of the skeletal muscle may cause the disease.

Polymyositis
Introduction
Polymyositis (pol-e-mi-o-SI-tis) is an uncommon disease that causes inflammation in your muscles. It's a type of connective tissue disease.

Polymyositis is a disease of the muscles. It usually affects the muscles closest to the trunk of the body. However, it may affect muscles anywhere in the body. The muscles become inflamed or swollen. This causes pain.

Polymyositis is an inflammation of the muscles that causes weakness and pain, difficulty moving, and, in some cases, problems breathing and swallowing. If the skin is inflamed too, it's called dermatomyositis.

polymyositis (PAH-lee-MY-oh-SY-tis)
An inflammatory disease of the muscles closest to the center of the body. It causes weakness, inability to stand, climb stairs, lift, or reach.

In polymyositis and dermatomyositis, weakness usually affects the muscles near the center of the body, including the muscles of the neck, shoulders and hips. Some patients also have difficulty swallowing.

Women with polymyositis or dermatomyositis who want to become pregnant should discuss their condition and current medications with a rheumatologist or maternal fetal medicine specialist before trying to conceive.

DERMATOMYOSITIS & POLYMYOSITIS: Dermatomyositis is a rare, sometimes, deadly disease, in which the muscles and skin become inflamed, causing muscle weakness and rash. Polymyositis is a rare disease in which the muscles become weak and inflamed.

Myositis is a term that describes several illnesses including polymyositis, dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. Polymyositis involves inflammation of the muscles and can affect many parts of the body.
