Post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis (GN)
Definition
Post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis (GN) is a disorder of the kidneys that occurs after infection with certain strains of Streptococcus bacteria.

Post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis. Glomerulonephritis may develop after a strep infection in your throat or, rarely, on your skin (impetigo).

Acute post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis (APSGN)
APSGN is caused by a bacterial infection, like strep throat.

Post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis - may occur 2-3 weeks after infection. This causes bloody urine, oedema (swelling of arms, feet, around eyes), headache, loin pain, fever, and high blood pressure.

Acute post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis (PSGN) can occur after an episode of strep throat or, in rare cases, impetigo (a skin infection).

Kidney failure (post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis) (rare)
Many patches of impetigo (in children)
Permanent skin damage and scarring (very rare)

Postmenopause (Menopause)
