How is primary hyperparathyroidism diagnosed?
The disorder may not present symptoms or complications, and is sometimes discovered during a routine blood test as a part of a physical examination.

Primary hyperparathyroidism is a disorder of one or more of the parathyroid glands (figure 1). The parathyroid gland(s) becomes overactive and secretes excess amounts of parathyroid hormone.

Primary hyperparathyroidism. Most often, this type is caused by a benign growth (adenoma) on one of the parathyroid glands, although the disorder can also occur when two or more glands become enlarged (hyperplasia) and produce too much hormone.

Primary hyperparathyroidism
In primary hyperparathyroidism, one or more of your parathyroid glands become enlarged and overactive. The gland, or glands, release too much parathyroid hormone. This results in a high level of calcium in your blood.

Primary hyperparathyroidism: An abnormality causes the release of too much parathyroid hormone. In about 90% of people with primary hyperparathyroidism, the abnormality is a noncancerous tumor (adenoma) in one of the parathyroid glands.

Primary Hyperparathyroidism
Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is the third most common endocrine disorder in the general population. The incidence increases with age with the vast majority of cases occurring after the 6th decade of life.

Primary hyperparathyroidism
An overactive parathyroid gland results in a condition called primary hyperparathyroidism, which can impact your health. Four small glands located behind the thyroid gland in your neck are called parathyroid glands.

Primary hyperparathyroidism:
Parathyroid cancer (very rare)
Adenoma (benign tumor) in the parathyroid gland (accounting for 85% of primary hyperparathyroidism)
Familial hyperparathyroidism
Multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) ...

Primary hyperparathyroidism is caused by overproduction of parathyroid hormone. The cause the disease is not known in most cases. Rare causes of primary hyperparathyroidism include parathyroid cancer or inherited disorders.

Primary hyperparathyroidism-most common form, a benign tumor of the parathyroid gland makes too much PTH on its own
Secondary hyperparathyroidism-occurs in patients with long-standing kidney failure or a vitamin D deficient state (very common) ...

Primary hyperparathyroidism is caused by enlargement of one or more of the parathyroid glands. This leads to too much parathyroid hormone, which raises the level of calcium in the blood.

Primary hyperparathyroidism is the most common cause of hypercalcemia over all and is the most common cause of excess PTH. High PTH causes the excess of calcium seen in familial hypocalciuric hypercalcemia a condition of benign hypercalcemia.

Primary hyperparathyroidism is the most common cause of hypercalcemia and is due to excess PTH. This excess occurs due to an enlargement of one or more of the parathyroid glands.

Primary hyperparathyroidism occurs as a malfunction of one of the glands, usually as a result of a benign tumor called an adenoma.

Primary hyperparathyroidism is typically treated by surgically removing all abnormal parathyroid tissue (parathyroidectomy).
