What is protein C deficiency?
Protein C deficiency is a disorder of blood clotting. People with this condition have an increased risk of developing abnormal blood clots.

Alternate Names : Protein S deficiency, Protein C deficiency
Definition
Congenital protein C or S deficiency is a lack of proteins C or S in the fluid part of the blood. The proteins are natural substances that help prevent blood clots.

Protein C Deficiency
Protein C is a vitamin K-dependent protein, as are coagulation factors VII, IX, and X, prothrombin, and proteins S and Z. Because APC degrades factors Va and VIIIa, APC is a natural plasma anticoagulant.

Protein C deficiency
Protein C is a natural anticoagulant chemical in the blood. The deficiency can be genetic, or due to other conditions such as kidney disease.

These include Protein C deficiency due to Factor V Leiden (hereditary blood coagulation disorder)
