Recurrent Cystitis in Women
Cystitis means inflammation of the bladder. It is usually caused by a urine infection. Some women have recurring bouts of cystitis. In many cases there is no apparent cause.

Definition
Recurrent cystitis consists of at least 2 infections of the bladder in 6 months, or 3 infections in 1 year. It is confirmed by tests that show the growth of bacteria in the urine.

For recurrent cystitis or in the case of inexplicable infections, further tests may include:
Ultrasound scan
X-ray
Cytoscopy (fiber-optic examination of the bladder) ...

bladder infections such as acute cystitis or recurrent cystitis
bleeding or blood-clotting disorders, such as hemophilia A or hemophilia B. Clotting problems may also be seen in a person who is taking too much of the blood-thinning drug warfarin.

Recurrent cystitis or urinary tract infection is also a frequent symptom in one-third of patients. Other complaints include pain, hematuria, vaginal discharge, obstructive symptoms or urinary retention and incontinence (stress or urge).

Does individual have a history of recurrent cystitis?
Has a urine culture confirmed the diagnosis of acute cystitis?
Are the bacteria cultured resistant to the antibiotic used?
