Eight-day measles: An acute highly contagious viral disease with fever, runny nose, cough, red eyes, and a spreading skin rash. The eight-day measles is the ordinary measles, also known as rubeola, a potentially disastrous disease.

Signs and symptoms of conjunctivitis include inflammation of the conjunctiva and red eyes dues to the blood vessels getting filled with blood. Blood vessels are tube-shaped structures that carry blood to and from the heart.

Eyes: itchy, red eyes, feeling of grittiness in the eyes, swelling and blueness of the skin below the eyes (called allergic shiners) (see "Patient information: Allergic conjunctivitis").

The fever lasts more than 5 days and is associated with irritability, swollen lymph nodes, red eyes, lips, throat and tongue. The rash may cover the entire body and is sometimes followed by a peeling of the skin on the hands and fingers.

Sometimes skin around the eyes is red and scaly. Many people have more severe symptoms in certain seasons such as the spring or fall.
