Reflux Nephropathy
Reflux nephropathy is a condition in which the kidneys are damaged by the backward flow of urine into the kidney. Reflux can occur in people whose ureters do not attach properly to the bladder or if the valves do not work well.

Reflux Nephropathy (Vesico-Ureteric Reflux)
The ureters drain urine from the kidneys into the bladder and in the healthy state, one- way valves shut off the ureters from the bladder during urination.

Reflux nephropathy: Damage or scarring that may occur in one or both of the kidneys as a result of pyelonephritis. Typically associated with vesicoureteral reflux, infected urine and kidney infection. This damage is not reversible.

Reflux nephropathy is renal scarring presumably induced by vesicoureteral reflux of infected urine into the renal parenchyma. The diagnosis is suspected in children with UTI or a family history.
