Refraction test
Definition
The refraction test is an eye exam that measures a person's prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses.

Refraction testing
The refraction test measures the extent of any refractive error present and allows for appropriate spectacles or contact lenses to be prescribed.

refraction test
A test that utilizes a phoropter and a chart at a 20-foot distance to measure the eye's ability to see objects at certain distances.

Cycloplegic refraction test-which is performed to determine how the eyeball displays and receives images produced by the lens of the eye. To perform the test, eye drops are used to dilate (widen the pupil) for a better view of the eye.

Tests: A visual acuity test and a standard ophthalmic examination with refraction test may be done. The individual may be examined with an instrument that measures refracted light from the cornea surface to detect contours (keratometer).

Treatments depend on the cause. Surgery will be recommended for some conditions (such as cataracts). Diabetics must control their blood-sugar level.

The standard eye examination with a refraction test, given by an optometrist or opthalmologist, is ...

Examination of scrapings from the ulcer
Fluorescein stain of the cornea
Keratometry (measurement of the cornea)
Pupillary reflex response
Refraction test
Slit-lamp examination
Tear test
Visual acuity ...

An eye doctor will suspect myopia in a person complaining of blurred vision when reading a blackboard or road signs from a distance. He or she can diagnose this condition during the portion of a routine eye examination called a refraction test.

Exam will include a vision test with an eye chart (visual acuity).
Optometrist will have equipment to do other tests, such as a slit lamp exam using a special microscope to look inside the eye, or a refraction test for those with blurred vision.
