Renal biopsy
Definition
A renal biopsy is the removal of a small piece of kidney tissue for laboratory examination.

Renal biopsy
Alternate Names : Kidney biopsy, Biopsy - kidney
Definition ...

An adrenal biopsy may be done when an abnormal growth or mass is seen in one, or rarely both, of the adrenal glands. This growth or mass may be a tumor or just an infection.

Adrenal biopsy
biopsy performed for the differential diagnosis between metastases and adenomas ("incidentalomas"). Adrenal Biopsy: A tissue sample, usually taken for microscopy, to look for altered cells.

Kidney Biopsy (Renal Biopsy)
A kidney biopsy involves taking a small sample of tissue from the kidney. Cells from the kidney can then be looked at in detail. It is used to diagnose and monitor certain conditions.

Renal biopsy is indicated in adults to diagnose the disorder causing idiopathic nephrotic syndrome.

RENAL BIOPSY PROCEDURE
Preparation - Before your biopsy, you may need testing to see if you have a blood clotting abnormality or infection.

Renal biopsy. In this procedure a health care professional obtains a sample of kidney tissue to examine under a microscope. A needle is inserted through the skin into the back of the kidney to retrieve a tissue sample.

A renal biopsy is sometimes performed if the child does not respond to a month's steroids, or if the child is in their teenage years, or an adult because of the different types of inflammation in that age group.

Treatment
There is no cure for any of the three cystic kidney diseases. Medical treatment aims to manage symptoms and reduce the risk of complications.

BUN and creatinine are elevated.
Red blood cell count, hematocrit may decrease.
Audiometry may show nerve deafness.
Renal biopsy shows chronic glomerulonephritis with changes typical of Alport syndrome.

X rays, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography scan (CT), ultrasound, renal biopsy, and/or arteriogram of the kidneys may be used to determine the cause of kidney failure and level of remaining kidney function.

Adults chronically exposed to lead can develop elevated serum creatinine levels, decreased creatinine clearance rates, and chronic changes and intranuclear inclusion bodies (detected at renal biopsy).

If these tests suggest kidney disease, a nephrologist should be consulted for consideration of renal function tests or renal biopsy.

The test is used to determine the size and shape of the kidney, and to detect a mass, kidney stone, cyst, or other obstruction or abnormalities.
