Reticulocyte Count
A reticulocyte (re-TIK-u-lo-site) count measures the number of young red blood cells in your blood. The test shows whether your bone marrow is making red blood cells at the correct rate.
If the reticulocyte count is elevated or normal (reflecting an appropriate bone marrow response), anemia is caused by blood loss or hemolysis.
Reticulocyte Count. Reticulocytes are immature red blood cells, and their count reflects the rate of red blood cell production. The upper normal limit is about 100,000/mL.

Why is the Test Performed?
This test may be used to help determine the cause of anemia, polycythemia (high red blood cells) or other bone marrow disorders.
