The retina is divided into 8 microscopic layers, normally directly adjacent and connected to each other. Several conditions result when disease leads to a separation of these layers, called retinoschisis.
What is Retinoschisis?
Retinoschisis means the splitting of the retina into 2 layers. It is a disease affecting the nerve tissue in the eye. The retina in the eye consists of various layers of nerve and pigment cells which are all interconnected.
