Shigellosis
Shigellosis is a gastrointestinal disease caused by a group of bacteria called Shigella. Illness often occurs 1 to 2 days after exposure to Shigella, and lasts 5 to 7 days.

What is Shigellosis?
Shigellosis is an infectious disease caused by a group of bacteria called Shigella, that causes bacterial dysentery. These bacterium cause disease by penetrating the lining of the large intestine, causing swelling and sores.

Does shigellosis have any complications?
After shigellosis, it may take months before your bowel movements are completely normal again. But people with diarrhea usually recover completely.

Shigellosis is an infectious disease caused by several different species of Shigella bacteria. The bacteria cause diarrhea, fever and stomach cramping in the infected individual.

Shigellosis is caused by one of several types of Shigella bacteria. Three species are associated with bacillary dysentery : Shigella sonnei, Shigella flexneri and Shigella dysenteriae.

Shigellosis, which is most common during the summer months, typically affects kids 2 to 4 years old, and rarely infects infants younger than 6 months old.
These infections are very contagious and can be prevented with good hand washing practices.
