How is sleeping sickness spread?
The tsetse fly is the host for the parasite, which is transmitted by biting. The bite is sufficiently painful for it to be noticed, but only a few of the flies carry the infection.

To the group of diseases caused by Trypanosomes must now be added sleeping sickness. This disease is due to the presence and action in the human body of a form known as T. gambiense (Dutton).

Symptoms of African sleeping sickness may appear at once, after several weeks, or even after years in the Gambian type.

Chagas' disease is an infection caused by Trypanosoma cruzi, a parasite related to the African trypanosome that causes sleeping sickness.
