A spider angioma is a grouping of small blood vessels at the skin surface. The pattern sometimes resembles the threads of a spider's web.

Physical exam: The individual usually has signs of advanced liver disease such as a swollen abdomen (ascites), yellow skin (jaundice), small broken vessels on the face and chest (spider angiomata), and muscle wasting.

Notice tiny blood vessels on your skin that look like spider webs (spider angiomas).
See swelling or redness of the palms of your hands.
Have redness on your face, especially your nose and cheeks.

This treatment is used most commonly for spider angiomas.
Embolization: A special material is injected into the vessel blocks blood flow, which helps control blood loss from a bleeding birthmark or reduces the size of inoperable growths.

Look for spider angiomas or petechiae, clubbed fingers, and gynecomastia. If the patient has heart failure, auscultate for arrhythmias, murmurs, and gallops. For all patients, auscultate for crackles and abnormal bowel sounds.
