Does individual have erythema and skin lesions such as macules, papules, nodules, vesicles, bullae, and target lesions? A rash on the palms, soles, knees, elbows, and mucous membranes of the mouth and lips?

For example, a bull's-eye or target lesion is one that looks like the bull's eye on a target.

Target lesions on the trunk, hacking cough, fever, and blisters around the mouth, eyes, nostrils, and anal and vaginal areas are the key symptoms of SJS.

Most cases can be diagnosed based on your medical history and skin exam. If target lesions are present, then diagnosis is clear. The skin lesions may not be typical. In this case, a biopsy of the skin may be done.

Prodrome of malaise, fever, conjunctivitis, and generalized macular target lesions suggests SJS. Pemphigus vulgaris starts with oral lesions, then progresses to flaccid cutaneous bullae. Bullous pemphigoid has tense bullae on normal-appearing skin.

Lesions can be defined according to the patterns they form. For example, a bull's-eye or target lesion is one that looks like the bull's eye on a target. A coin lesion is a round shadow resembling a coin on a chest X-ray.

Erythema Multiforme (Stevens-Johnson syndrome) is a severe skin reaction that starts as red, round patches (target lesions) which spread and join together, form blisters (Bullous lesions), and peel off.
