Disease TendinitisTendon repair

Tendons are like ligaments in being tough, flexible cords. But tendons differ from ligaments in that tendons extend from muscle to bone whereas ligaments go from bone to bone as at a joint.

A tendon is the fibrous tissue that attaches muscle to bone in the human body. The forces applied to a tendon may be more than 5 times your body weight. In some rare instances, tendons can snap or rupture.

Tendons, or sinews, connect muscle to bone. The bones in a person's skeleton enable him or her to walk, run, jump, roll, lift, carry, drop, and do other important physical activities.

Tendon repair can be performed using local anesthesia (the immediate area of the surgery is pain-free), regional anesthesia (the local and surrounding areas are pain-free), or general anesthesia (the patient is unconscious and pain-free).

Tendons are usually surrounded by a sheath of tissue similar to the lining of the joints (synovium). They're subject to the wear and tear of aging, direct injury and inflammatory diseases.

A tendon is a band of strong fibrous tissue forming the end of the muscle that attaches the muscle to bone.
How does it occur?

Achilles Tendon Rupture
What is it?
The Achilles (uh-kill-ees) tendon is behind the ankle. It connects the heel of the foot to the calf muscles. Tendons are tissues that connect muscle to bone. A rupture (rup-sher) is a tear or break.

Patellar Tendonitis (Jumper's Knee)
What is jumper's knee?
Jumper's knee, also known as patellar tendonitis, is a condition characterized by inflammation of the patellar tendon, which connects the kneecap to shin bone (tibia).

Tendon injuries (tendinitis). Tendinitis is irritation and inflammation of one or more tendons — the thick, fibrous cords that attach muscles to bone.

Tendons in the rotator cuff can be injured easily because they move within a tight space. When the shoulder is turned or lifted at the limit of its natural range of movement, the tendons in this tight space are moved, too.

Tendonitis
Definition:
Tendinitis is inflammation, irritation, and swelling of a tendon, which is the fibrous structure that joins muscle to bone. In many cases, tendinosis (tendon degeneration) is also present.

Tendonitis is inflammation of a tendon. A tendon is the cord or band that connects a muscle to a bone.

Tendon repair, most frequently performed on the hands, is a surgery that repairs overly loose or tight tendons around a joint.

Tendon
A tendon is a connective tissue that joins muscles to bone in vertebrates.
Tensor
A tensor is a type of muscle which tightens or stretches a part of the body.

The tendons pass underneath a rigid bony arch in the shoulder. The most common cause of shoulder pain is when the tendons become trapped under this arch. The compressed tendons become inflamed or damaged, a condition called rotator cuff tendinitis.

The tendon of one of these muscles - the supraspinatus commonly impinges on the acromion (the bone forming the tip of the shoulder) as it passes between the acromion and the humeral head.

Deep Tendon Reflexes
The deep muscle stretch reflexes that are obtained by tapping on the tendons (such as the "knee jerk").

The tendons that move the fingers, hand and wrist slide back and forth over the wrist structures. These tendons run through sheaths that produce a lubricating synovial fluid too.

A splint can be worn to support and brace your wrist in a neutral position so that the nerves and tendons can recover. A splint can be worn 24 hours a day or only at night. Sometimes, wearing a splint at night helps to reduce the pain.

Tendinous xanthomas are nodose, subcutaneous lesions attached to ligaments and tendons, particularly the Achilles tendon.
The nodules may be yellowish, but are usually skin colored.

The worst complication is tearing of the tendon. This occurs because the inflamed tendon is abnormal and weak and continued activity can cause it to rupture.
