The Tensilon test is a method to help diagnose myasthenia gravis.
How the Test is Performed ...

The Tensilon test - a drug (edrophonium) given intravenously. If the person's muscle strength temporarily improves, this indicates myasthenia gravis.
Electromyography (EMG) - a device that measures muscular response to nerve stimulation.

Tensilon test. This test involves giving you a drug called Tensilon. The drug temporarily restores strength to the muscles by supplying the chemicals blocked by the disease. A good response to this drug helps confirm the diagnosis.

Tensilon test, also called the edrophonium test - Edrophonium (brand name Tensilon) is a drug that temporarily increases the amount of acetylcholine in the neuromuscular junction.

Tension headache
Tension (Stress and anxiety)
Tension-type headache
Teratoma - MRI scan
Tertian malaria (Malaria)
Tertiary Lyme disease (Lyme disease - chronic persistent)
Tertiary lyme disease
Tertiary syphilis (Syphilis - tertiary) ...

A Tensilon test is positive in some cases but must be interpreted carefully by an experienced doctor. Baseline muscle strength is evaluated.

To rule out these other diseases, a doctor will use tests, including a brain scan, spinal fluid check, electromyography (EMG), and a tensilon test.

Diagnosis of MG is usually confirmed with a Tensilon test. With this test, a small amount of medicine (Tensilon) is injected into the child. If the child has MG, an immediate, but brief, increase in muscle tone is noted.

Interventions:
Surgery may be necessary to correct problems with the muscles that open the eyelid (levator muscle dysfunction).

These tests may include a brain scan, spinal fluid examination, nerve conduction test (electromyography [EMG] with repetitive nerve stimulation), and a Tensilon test for myasthenia gravis.

Tensilon test-a dose of a medication called edrophonium chloride is given, which will briefly improve muscle weakness
CT or MRI scan of the chest-to look for a tumor of the thymus gland (thymoma) ...

A Tensilon test may be necessary to differentiate myasthenia gravis. If a neurologic disease is suspected, referral to a neurologist would be in order. Consider EMG also. If sleep apnea is a possibility, overnight polysomnography is indicated.
