In a person with thalassemia, one or both parents are positive for the disease. When one parent is positive, the child will have thalassemia minor. When both parents are positive, the child will have thalassemia major.

thalassemia minor or thalassemia trait - one beta gene has a deletion, resulting in anemia. Thalassemia minor is further divided into:
thalassemia minima - person has few or no symptoms.

Beta thalassemia minor
Individuals with this type of beta thalassemia may be asymptomatic or experience very few symptoms. Symptoms may be worse in individuals that are pregnant, under stress, or malnourished. Symptoms may include: ...

Thalassemia minor occurs if you receive the defective gene from only one parent. Persons with this form of the disorder are carriers of the disease and do not have symptoms.
Beta thalassemia major is also called Cooley's anemia.

Thalassemia minor: The individual with thalassemia minor has only one copy of the beta thalassemia gene (together with one perfectly normal beta-chain gene). The person is said to be heterozygous for beta thalassemia.

This condition is called beta thalassemia minor or beta thalassemia trait. This happens when you get a normal gene from one parent and a thalassemia gene from the other.

People with beta thalassemia minor or beta thalassemia trait only carry one gene defect and are often asymptomatic or have mild anemia.

Thalassemia minor Individuals who are heterozygous for the beta thalassemia gene (carry one copy of the beta thalassemia gene) are said to have thalassemia minor or thalassemia trait.

Hemoglobin disorders - In some people with inherited hemoglobin disorders, the illness is mild or does not cause any symptoms (as in thalassemia minor), so treatment is not necessary.

Beta-thalassemia minor occurs when only one gene is defective and the remaining intact gene still produces a sufficient amount of beta-globin. There are typically no symptoms with this type of thalassemia.

The two major forms are thalassemia minor and thalassemia major (Cooley's anemia, beta thalassemia). Thalassemia minor is the more common and milder form, in which life span is normal. Thalassemia major can be serious but it is fortunately very rare.

Thalassemia minor is caused by heterozygous inheritance of the same gene.

with an autosomal recessive condition each carry one copy of the mutated gene, but typically do not show signs and symptoms of the condition. Sometimes, however, carriers of the altered HBB gene have a mild anemia referred to as thalassemia minor.

of the mutated gene, but they typically do not show signs and symptoms of the condition. Sometimes, however, people with only one HBB gene mutation in each cell develop mild anemia. These mildly affected people are said to have thalassemia minor.

The two main types are thalassemia major (Cooley's anemia) and thalassemia minor (the more common of the two). Thalassemia can be very serious, but the condition is rare; it is more commonly found in people of Mediterranean descent.

The parents are carriers (heterozygotes) with just one thalassemia gene, are said to have thalassemia minor, and are clinically normal.
