Tinea corporis (often called ringworm of the body) is a common skin disorder, especially among children. However, it may occur in people of all ages. It is caused by mold-like fungi called dermatophytes.

The fungi that are usually responsible for ringworm are zoophile and transmitted primarily through contact with animals. The scientific term for ringworm is tinea corporis.

Tinea corporis is more commonly known as ringworm. It is a fungal infection of the skin. The rash is generally ring shaped and has a scaly border. Treatment is usually with anti-fungus creams or with oral anti-fungus pills.

Tinea corporis affects your arms, legs, trunk and face. Ringworm gets its name from the characteristic ring that can appear, but it has nothing to do with a worm under your skin.

Tinea corporis is an infection that appears on a part of the body other than those listed above. Tinea corporis often develops when a tinea infection is transferred from another part of the body.
