Toxocariasis is a rare infection caused by roundworm parasites (Toxocara canis). It is spread from animals to humans via their infected faeces.

Toxocariasis is human infection with nematode ascarid larvae that ordinarily infect animals. Symptoms are fever, anorexia, hepatosplenomegaly, rash, pneumonitis, asthma, or visual impairment. Diagnosis is by enzyme immunoassay.

Toxocariasis is the parasitic disease caused by the larvae of two species of Toxocara roundworms: Toxocara canis from dogs and, less commonly, Toxocara cati from cats.

Alternate Names : Toxocariasis, Ocular larva migrans, Larva migrans visceralis

Cats can carry more than 60 diseases that can be transmitted to humans, including cat-scratch diseases, toxocariasis, and ringworm. Dogs carry many fewer. Birds can carry diseases such as psittacosis, which can cause pneumonia.

Encephalitis may be caused by other parasitic infections, such as toxocariasis (from roundworms found in dogs and cats); or cysticercosi (from food or water contaminated with pork tapeworm eggs).
