It is sometimes called trichomonas infection, trichomonal infection, or simply trich (say "trick"). Trichomoniasis causes a vaginal discharge that is yellow-green, foamy, and bad-smelling. Pain with sex or urination may be present.

When women have this infection they usually also have a urinary tract infection or a trichomonas infection as well.

There is no available clinical test for Trichomonas infection in males, so if a sex partner informs you she or he has been diagnosed with Trich, you should seek treatment for this infection right away even if you have no symptoms.

The disease is quickly and easily treated if diagnosed early, but left untreated it can lead to serious complications. Trichomonas infection is very common, with up to 7.4 million new cases occurring yearly in the United States (Source: CDC).

By looking at the discharge under a microscope in the office, the health care professional can check for any signs of yeast, bacterial vaginosis, or trichomonas infection that could give similar symptoms.
