What Is Vaginal Bleeding?
Vaginal bleeding is the presence of bright red blood from the vagina. This is normal in women of childbearing age who haven't experienced menopause.

Vaginal bleeding between periods is when a woman has uterine bleeding after she has finished one menstrual period and before she begins the next. This occurs in many women at some point in their lives.
What is going on in the body?

Abnormal vaginal bleeding has many possible causes. By itself, it does not necessarily indicate a serious condition.
Because bleeding can indicate a problem with pregnancy, possible pregnancy should always be considered in a woman of childbearing age.

Vaginal bleeding is caused by the uterus cleaning out tissue. You will need to wear a sanitary pad. Do not use tampons without your doctor's permission. The bleeding can continue up to eight weeks.

Vaginal bleeding . Depending on the location and amount of separation, vaginal bleeding varies in amount (scant to heavy) and color (bright to dark red). Light vaginal bleeding does not necessarily indicate a minor problem.

Unusual vaginal bleeding during pregnancy. At first the bleeding may appear watery with a small amount of blood in it. Later, the bleeding may be less watery and have more blood.

Physical exam: Vaginal bleeding is noted in most cases. Signs of major blood loss, such as a high heart rate and low blood pressure, may be present. The uterus is usually tender and abdominal discomfort may be present.

Threatened miscarriage: an incidence in which certain symptoms, such as vaginal bleeding or severe cramping, occur during pregnancy. The symptoms may stop or may progress to a miscarriage. Toxemia: see "preeclampsia.

Abnormal vaginal bleeding, diabetes mellitus, and toxemia (disturbed metabolism during pregnancy characterized by high blood pressure, swelling and protein in the urine) are all associated with amelia in the fetus.
