How is visual field testing done?
There are a variety of methods utilized to measure the visual fields. Virtually all visual field testing is performed one eye at a time, with the opposite (contralateral) eye completely covered to avoid errors.

A visual field test is often done as part of a routine eye exam. Also, it may be used to diagnose serious diseases of the eyes or brain. For example, visual field testing is commonly done to help diagnose and monitor glaucoma.
