What is von Hippel-Lindau syndrome?
Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome is an inherited disorder characterized by the formation of tumors and fluid-filled sacs (cysts) in many different parts of the body.

Von Hippel-Lindau disease is a genetic disorder caused by a mutation on the third chromosome. In healthy individuals, the chromosome has a Von Hippel-Lindau tumor suppressor, while individuals with the disorder are lacking this suppressor.

Von Hippel-Lindau Syndrome
What is von Hippel-Lindau syndrome?
Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome (VHL) is a hereditary condition associated with hemangioblastomas (blood vessel tumors) of the brain, spinal cord, and eye.

Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome (VHL)
Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome (VHL) is an inherited condition in which blood vessels grow abnormally. Little knots of blood capillaries called angiomas or hemangioblastomas sometimes occur.

Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease. People with this inherited disorder develop benign blood vessel tumors (hemangioblastomas) in their brain and spinal cord and may develop tumors of the adrenal glands. They're also at high risk of kidney cancer.

von Hippel-Lindau Syndrome: von Hippel-Lindau is a genetic condition involving the abnormal growth of blood vessels in some parts of the body which are particularly rich in blood vessels.

The cardinal features of what is more commonly called von hippel-lindau (vhl) syndrome are benign blood-vessel tumours that most typically affect the eye and the brain. The eye tumours are termed angiomata and are in the retina.

CAPILLARY HEMANGIOBLASTOMA (WHO grade I) occurs sporadically and is associated with the familial tumor syndrome von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease.

Individuals with tuberous sclerosis, neurofibromatosis (type 1 and 2), familial polyposis, and von Hippel-Lindau disease have a higher incidence of brain tumors.
Neurofibromatosis ...

Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome is a disease that causes multiple tumors of the brain, spine, eyes, adrenal glands, pancreas, inner ear, testicles, and kidneys.

neurofibromatosis, von Hippel-Lindau disease, Li-Fraumeni syndrome, and retinoblastoma) also have an increased risk to develop tumors of the central nervous system.

Angiomas (swelling of the blood vessels) of the retina may occur, usually in association with a syndrome called Von Hippel-Lindau disease (an hereditary disease causing vascular nodules in the retina).

Five percent of those diagnosed with this tumor have either Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome, type 2 of the multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) syndromes, Von Recklinghausen's neurofibromatosis, or another inherited disorder.
