What is Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome?
Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome is a condition that affects blood cells and cells of the immune system. This condition is seen almost exclusively in males.
Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome results from a combined B- and T-cell defect and is characterized by recurrent infection, atopic dermatitis, and thrombocytopenia.
Definition Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome (WAS) is a rare inherited disorder marked by a low level of blood platelets, eczema, recurrent infections, and a high risk of leukemia or lymph node tumors.
Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome (WIS-kot AL-drich SIN-drome) An inherited immune disorder that occurs in young boys.
These disorders include Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome, X-linked thrombocytopenia and X-linked congenital neutropenia. The WAS gene abnormality results in a deficiency in the WASP protein that leads to a low platelet count (thrombocytopenia).
