Standard for the Australian Cattle Dog ... Australian Cattle Dog Club of America, Inc. ACD Working Standard. Original Kaleski Standard. Australian ACD Breed ...

The ACD is gregarious to other dogs with whom it is familiar, working well in combination with other ACDs, Kelpies, and Border Collies. Because of their plucky nature, the establishing of an order can result in a few scuffles and bites.

Only a few ACDs, therefore, have excelled in obedience competition ...

The ACD dates back to at least 1897. It was formed using the smooth-coated collie, Dingo, Dalmatian, Australian kelpie, and Bull terrier. Australian Cattle Dogs not only tolerate a high level of physical activity, they almost demand it.

The ACD is stocky with a body that is slightly longer than it is tall. The head of the Australian Cattle Dog is wide and they have dark brown, oval-shaped eyes and prick ears.

The ACD was bred to heard cattle by nipping at their heels. They may tend to do the same with people, including children. Best with older, respectful children and adults.

The ACD skull is broad, the cheeks are muscular, and the muzzle deep and powerful. Teeth meet in a scissors bite, eyes are dark brown ovals with an alert, intelligent expression and a hint of suspicion.

Some breeders dock ACD's tails. This is a controversial practice and, in some countries, is illegal or is prohibited for show dogs.

Blue Heeler History
The Blue Heeler was developed by pioneer settlers in nineteenth-century Australia.

Calls come via a network (shelter, AKC, ACD National Club, & John Kurpas chairman) and newspaper. A rescue establishes a network of people so many are involved, even YOU! How many dogs do you place?

Due to the square body ratio to height, the breed is leggier than the ACD, and does not have the heavy body mass of the ACD. This makes for a more agile dog with tremendous stamina in the fields and pastures. The feet are round with short toes.

Without peer as a cattle herder, the Australian Cattle Dog (ACD) is ready and willing to work all day. Their agility, strength and courageousness allow them to easily control and move cattle in both open and confined spaces.

A bored ACD is not only trouble, but destructive. It NEEDS to be with people and cannot be left chained or penned in the back yard. If the ACD is isolated like that, it leads to serious personality problems.

2. The Stumpy's ears are wider apart, and set higher on the head than the ACD's.
3. Stumpy's should not have any tan patches.
