Ainu Dog History
The Ainu is believed to be 1 of the oldest dogs' of Japan. The blue-black tongue shows a distant romantic relationship with the Chow Chow and the Shar Pei.

They are a courageous, trustworthy breed with a close resemblance to the Shiba Inu and Ainu Dog. The Kishu, a medium sized sturdy dog, was once used for hunting deer and wild boar.

In fact, they are so much alike that in Japan, these native breeds are shown in one classification, divided into sub-groups: large (Akita), medium (Kai dog, Kishu, Ainu dog, Shikoku) and small (Shiba inu).
