The Bearded Collie is believed to be one of the oldest herding dogs in Scotland. It may descend from the Komondor of central Europe.
The Bearded Collie probably originated from the central European Magyar Komondor or lowland Polish Sheepdog. In fact, records show that in 1514 two lowland Polish Sheepdogs were brought to Scotland by Polish traders.
The Bearded Collie has a sturdy medium-sized body. Its long, lean body provides it both power and agility, essential qualities in a sheep herding dog.
The Bearded Collie’s long, shaggy coat requires daily brushing. Comb should be used sparingly. Checking of ears, eyes and paws should be done regularly. As an average shedder, this breed requires to be bathed when necessary.
