The unique dreadlock appearance gives a hint of common origin with the Puli and the Bergamasco. There might also be a link between the Komondor and the big, white Russian livestock dogs, the South Russian Ovtcharka.

Developed from the European shepherds such as Bergamasco or Russian Owtcharkas and then bred to the sheepdogs of the British Isles. Used as drover's dogs, they were sheared down annually in the spring with the sheep.

Origin of Breed: The Old English Sheepdog was originally bred in Great Britain in the 1800's. It was first used to herd sheep. It was bred from dogs like the Bergamasco.
