In 1893, Robert Kaleski took up breeding Blue Heelers, and he started showing them in 1897. Kaleski drew up a standard, basing the Cattle Dog on the Dingo, believing that this was the type naturally suited to the Australian outback.
The ancestors of the Blue Heeler, as it´s also called (due to it´s color and herdind skills), aren’t precise, since there´s still some controversy about the breeds that were crossed, especially concerning the Bull Terrier.
It has also been known as Blue Heeler, Queensland Heeler or Red Heeler. It is an interesting dog with unique markings and coat colours. It is a fabulous working dog, but not necessarily a great family pet.

It may also be that Blue Heelers played a part in the creation of the Manchester Terrier and the English Toy Terrier. May people from Flanders settled in Lancashire, so it may also be true this breed carries continental pinscher type blood.

Until now, many people call them the Blue Heelers, or the Queensland Heelers.
The breed became known as the Queensland Blue Heeler, because it was used so extensively in Queensland. Robert Kaleski drew up a standard for the breed in 1893 which was finally approved in Australia in 1903.
At certain periods, the breed was also known as the Queensland blue heeler, and then as the Australian heeler. The Australian cattle dog's solid and compact build allows for the agility and quickness required to manage wild cattle.
As the dogs became increasingly vital to the cattle industry of Queensland, they gained the name Queensland Blue Heeler. They later became known as Australian Heeler, and then Australian Cattle Dog.
