Blue Heelers

Dog Blue HeelerBlue Lacy

Blue Heelers need activities, tasks and lots of room to run; therefore, they are probably not suited for apartment living. Without open spaces and jobs to do, they can get into mischief and destructiveness.

You didn't mention Blue Heelers (Cattle Dogs) and some of them are short hair, ...

Blue Heelers are derived largely from dingoes using the puppies they brought back, normally the old Smooth Collie bred. It is believed that Dalmatians and Bull Terrier experienced been also additional to create the breed.

" Heelers, Red Heelers, Blue Heelers, Queensland Heelers, and Australian Cattle Dogs are all the same breed of dog. Australian Cattle Dog is the "official" (AKC) breed name. "Is this the same as an Australian Shepherd?" NO.

This breeding with the Dalmatian led to the spotted colouration valued in "Blue Heelers", the dark colour being the somewhat bluish black of the collie.

Australian Cattle Dogs were earlier known by the breed names Queensland Blue Heelers and Australian Heelers. They are often still referred to as Australian or Blue Heelers.

In 1893, Robert Kaleski took up breeding Blue Heelers, and he started showing them in 1897. Kaleski drew up a standard, basing the Cattle Dog on the Dingo, believing that this was the type naturally suited to the Australian outback.

The blue-colored dogs proved to be more popular, and became known as Blue Heelers.

It may also be that Blue Heelers played a part in the creation of the Manchester Terrier and the English Toy Terrier. May people from Flanders settled in Lancashire, so it may also be true this breed carries continental pinscher type blood.

Until now, many people call them the Blue Heelers, or the Queensland Heelers.
