The Bolognese (also called the Bichon Bolognese) is a small, sturdy dog with a fluffy and dense white coat, consisting of long locks with no undercoat.

About The Bolognese
The Bolognese is one of the Old World Bichon types of companion dogs. The breed was referred to as the Italian Bichon of Bologna, from which the name "Bolognese" was adopted.

The bichons were divided into four types: the bichon Maltaise, Bolognese, Havanese and Teneriffe.

Some argue that the Havanese is a descendant of the Italian Bolognese, which were taken by the Italians to Argentina, and there crossed with a small South American Poodle, creating a new member of the Bichon family.

The Havanese is a member of the Bichon family of dogs, which also includes the Bichon Frise, the Bichon Bolognese, Maltese, Coton De Tulear, Tsvetnaya Bolonka, Franzuskaya Bolonka and possibly the Löwchen breeds.

Description: The Coton de Tulear is a relative to the Bichon-type dogs and the Italian Bolognese. There are a couple of theories about its arrival in Madagascar: arriving with French troops, or from a shipwreck off of the island.

" The Bichon was divided into four types: Ilvanese, Bolognese, Maltaise, and Tenerife. It is said that the Tenerife was the original source of the Bichon Frisé.

The Bichons were then categorized into four varieties. The Maltaise, Bolognese, Havanese and the Tenerife. They were previously utilized not only as companions, but as show dogs and performers as well. They received their nod from the AKC in 1971.

The breeds they took were uncertain, but it must have been dogs from the Bichon´s family: the Maltese, the Bolognese, the Bichon Frise or even all. With later crosses between them the Havanese was created.

later shortened to Bichon canine family -- consists of several distinct breeds, including the Havanese. In order of popularity in the U.S., these breeds are: 1) Maltese, 2) Bichon Frise, 3) Havanese, 4) Lowchen, 5) Coton de Tulear, and 6) Bolognese.
