The BRT, because of its breeding as a working dog, has a very strong "work ethic", and needs a job to do in order to be happy.

The BRT is a large and very powerful dog. They have large bones and very well developed muscles. Some of the dogs of this breed can weigh up to 130 pounds. Their paws are round and large.

BRT's have a strong and balanced temperament. They avoid fighting with other dogs, although males cannot live with other big dominant dogs, but can easily live with none-dominant or small dogs, cats, horses, rabbits etc.

The Black Russian Terrieror merely BRT is a breed of canine designed initially like a guard canine and law enforcement dog.

The Black Russian Terrier (BRT), commonly known as Russian terrier or just Blackie is quickly gaining in popularity in Europe and North America. This large Russian dog definitely represents one of the top Russian breeds.

Proper grooming should also be observed in BRT’s. Regular trimming, preferably professional grooming, is recommended at least two to three times a year. Brushing is also needed to maintain the coat and avoid tangles.
