History
The Bull and Terrier is a cross between the Old English Bulldog and the Old English Terrier.

Bull and Terrier breeds were believed to have arrived in North America sometime in the mid-1880's. Here they developed along different lines with a heavier, taller dog being the end result.

Bull and Terrier Types:
The Bull and Terrier types, also known as the bully breeds, were developed in the 1700's. Crossing tenacious terriers with fighting dog breeds, the bull-baiting dogs, heightened their fearlessness and tenacity.

Bull and Terrier dogs came to the US in the early 1800s as all-around farm dogs and frontier guardians. Samuel Clemons featured a pup of this breed in his short book The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.

Bull and terrier breeds were created in early 19th-century England for the popular spectator sports of bull- and bear-baiting.

The Bull and Terrier, a pit dog, was originally produced in the early 1800s by crossing the old English Terrier and the Bulldog.

The pit bull and terrier were bred in the 1800s which created the American Pit Bull Terrier. They were commonly used by farmers as farm dogs.

Around 1835, a cross between a bulldog and the old English terrier produced a particularly adept pit dog known as the "bull and terrier.

This cross was known as the "bull and terrier." Later, the "bull and terrier" was apparently bred with a Spanish pointer to add some size to the breed.

The Miniature Bull Terrier was developed in the 19th century when a Bulldog and the now-extinct White English Terrier were crossed to produce the "Bull and Terrier," a dog bred to hunt rats, herd, and be a guard dog for his family.

American Pit Bull Terrier information’s origins came from bull and terrier crosses from England and Ireland brought to America in the 1800s.

In 1860 a man by the name of James Hinks bred his Bull and Terrier with Dalmatians and White English Terriers to produce the first ever pure white Bull Terriers.

The Boston Terrier was bred from crossing bull and terrier types of pit fighting dogs in the United States. Specifically, this breed came about by crossing an English bull dog with the English White Terrier, which is now extinct.

Immigrants brought these bull and terrier crosses to the United States.

Although illegal, these fights wÓ©re very popular among people for placing bets and Ñ-t was hοw the Bull and Terrier made its way to the United States, sometime during the late 1800s.

The crossings between these breeds resulted in a dog referred to as Bull and Terrier Dog; the Half and Half; and, Pit Bull. As the breed moved to America the names Pitdog and Pitbull Terrier stuck.

Originally weighing up to 44 pounds, the Boston Terrier was bred down from the bull and terrier pit-fighting breeds. This breed has the distinction of being the first non-sporting dog to be bred in America.
