The Bullmastiff originated in England in the mid-19th century. The breed was developed by estate gamekeepers who required a large, powerful dog capable of deterring and, if necessary, catching poachers.

The Bullmastiff is a giant animal, and has great loyalty and devotion, as well as a fearless and protective streak. Strong, alert, and calm, the Bullmastiff is confident yet gentle and mild mannered.

The Bullmastiff is very powerfully built, but not cumbersome, with a broad wrinkled head and fairly short, square, dark muzzle (about 1/3 the length of the whole head). The nose is black with large nostrils.

Bullmastiff dogs were initially used for protection and guardian in order to stop the poachers and protect the gamekeepers' livelihoods.

Bullmastiff are not purebreds, they are a combination of two dog breeds, the Mastiff and the Bulldog in particular. A Bullmastiff is comprised of 60% Mastiff and 40% Bulldog.

Bullmastiff is a British race of dog that, according to is created, comes from the crossing between mastín English and bulldogs.

Bullmastiffs shed very little. Minimal maintenance is required if keeping them indoors.
Housing Your Dog
Bullmastiffs can live indoors or out. They should ideally have a small yard to exercise in. Extreme temperatures should be avoided.

Bullmastiffs have a tendency to become lazy, so frequent exercise is needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle. This breed should not be overfed. Bullmastiffs can live happily in a small household or apartment if they are given sufficient exercise.

Bullmastiffs are short-haired dogs which have minimal shedding and that need minimal grooming.

The Bullmastiff was originally called the 'Gamekeeper's Night Dog' as they were used to catch poachers. The base stock of the Bullmastiff was 60% English Mastiff and 40% Bulldog. They were created in the late 1800's.

The Bullmastiff is a strong, powerfully-built dog with great intelligence and a willingness to please. Large, agile, and active, it makes for an ideal family companion and protector.

There have been bulldogs in Britain since the l3th Century, but the Bullmastiff was developed some 200-300 years ago. It is the result of a cross between the Mastiff, an ancient breed hat fought in the arenas of ancient Rome, and the British Bulldog.

The Bullmastiff's head is large and square with pronounced stop and short broad muzzle. This breed has a solid body with deep, broad chest and short back The Bull Mastiff's coat is short with hard water resistant hair lying smooth on the body.

Bullmastiff Temperament
Quiet and gentle, the bullmastiff can be a devoted family companion, as well as an effective guardian. It is generally good with children, although it is not a playful dog.

Bullmastiffs are fast, powerful, courageous and weigh 125-130 pounds full grown. The stand 24-27 inches at the withers [males 25-27; females 24-26 inches]. These dogs are high-spirited, alert, protective and watchful.
