Collies are herding dogs that originated in England, especially in the upland areas of the north and the west.

Collie makes reference to many races of dog, that they have like Scotland origin. The exact origin of the name is uncertain, but it thinks that cabbage can come from the early Scot (l) (coal), that means black.

The Collie has two coat varieties: a smooth-coated variety with a flat and short outer coat, and a rough-coated variety with a harsh, straight and long -- more so on the ruff and mane -- outer coat.

The collie is an active, lithe, strong dog that combines strength, speed and grace. Its gait suggests effortless speed as well as the ability to change speed and direction instantly, as required in herding dogs.
