The German Wire-haired Pointer is very similar to the German Short-haired Pointer, except in coat, and the latter obviously had a hand in the Wire-haired's make-up, as did the Wire-haired Pointing Griffon and the Stichelhaar, ...

I still take my two German Wire-haired Pointers for a two mile run every day. They are 10 and 8 and the older one does sometimes show signs of stiffness but quickly works out the kinks.
