Description
The Gordon Setter differs from the English and Irish setters in that it has a more robust structure, a more massive head, and more fully developed lips, as well as by the color of it silky, wavy coat.

The Gordon Setter is a large, well build dog with good muscle tone. The coat of the Gordon Setter is long and flat on the body, and shorter and finer on the head and legs.

Gordon Setter is a good-sized, sturdily built, black and tan dog, well muscled, with plenty of bone and substance.

Gordon Setters were bred to retrieve objects from enclosed spaces during hunting, and that is still their primary special skill. Many people say that the Gordon Setter dog breed does not lend itself way to traditional obedience training.

Gordon Setters were developed in Scotland and were once known as the Black and Tan Setter of Scotland. The name of this dog breed comes from the Dukes of Gordon who developed this breed on their Scottish estates.
