About The Grand Bleu De Gascogne
One of the larger French hunting hounds with aristocratic long head. The Grand Bleu de Gascogne is a Scenthound of ancient line-age, eminently French.
Smaller size Grand Bleu de Gascognes were chosen to hunt smaller game back in the days, while their larger counterparts were used to hunt Boars and bears and even Wolves in some cases, that how they got their name 'Grand' too.

The Basset Bleu de Gascogne descended directly through the old breed of Grand Bleu de Gascogne.They were recorded in paintings through the 14th century in Gascony, southwest France.
George Washington received French Foxhounds, Grand Bleu de Gascogne, (which look much like an American Bluetick hound) as a gift from the Marquis de Lafayette.
The ears are low set, thicker and less curled than its cousin the Grand Bleu de Gascogne. The long head is refined looking. The chest is deep providing ample space for the large lungs.
Developed by crossing European hounds (including the Grand Bleu de Gascogne and the English Foxhound) with existing American hounds, the Bluetick combined the nose and instincts of the Old World breeds with the endurance and speed of American dogs.
