The very rare breed originated in the Arctic regions as far back as 12,000 years ago where the Inuit people most likely used wolves for the father breeding.

The Greenland Dog does not have the temperament to be a house pet. They are a working breed, and will become bored if they are not given work to do. They are independent, stubborn, and play rather roughly.
Greenland Dogs were also used by the natives as hunting dogs, utilizing their keen sense of smell to find seals' breathing holes in the ice.

It bears a considerable resemblance to the Greenland Dog, but the Eskimo Dog is shorter in the back and weightier. The Eskimo Dog is an excellent sled dog of remarkable endurance. It is a fine guard and rarely lives indoors with its owners.

Tail: Carried over back in loose curl. Movement: Swift, but agile. Temperament: Energetic, free-spirited, with good movement.
*The Greenland Dog is an excellent draft dog and is used for hunting seal.
