Belgian Groenendaels can live happily in an apartment or small household if they are given sufficient exercise. They are moderately active indoors and are most content with a minimum of an average-sized yard.

BACKGROUND
The Belgian Shepherd Dog is unique in the world of dogs as it is the only breed to have four separate varieties. Structurally they are all the same and differ only in coat and colour.
The Groenendael was the first of the type to reach the US, and it underwent a name change to Belgian Sheepdog when it was accepted by the American Kennel Club in 1912.
The Groenendaels can adapt to apartment life if frequently exercised but do best with a fenced yard. This breed should be exercised for over an hour per day.
